Natural Medicines Comprehensive Database (by subscription): This is, in reality, two sets of database - one for health professionals and another for patients. The editorial staff at Therapeutic Research Center decided to create the Natural Medicines Comprehensive Database in the mid-1990's. The team had been researching and publishing objective drug information about prescription and non-prescription drugs for many years and put their drug information and literature evaluation skills to work to produce a highly objective, evidence-based resource designed for healthcare professionals..

Hundreds of monographs have been updated and thousands of new references are added each year. Interactions are added as soon as they are recognised, and new safety concerns. Several effectiveness ratings have been raised or lowered based on new scientific findings. More about the database can be found here.

The database includes: ‘Search’ (enter any natural product name, disease or condition, or drug name... gives you objective product information, Effectiveness Ratings, or potential interactions with drugs, etc); ‘Natural Product Effectiveness Checker’; ‘Natural Product / Drug Interaction Checker’ (automatically checks for interactions with EACH INGREDIENT of each product); ‘’Disease / Medical Conditions Search’; ‘Search Colleagues Interact’ (shows you questions, answers, and comments posted by other health professionals). It also provides ‘Clinical Management Series’ (providing accredited continuing education (CE/CME) for physicians, pharmacists, NPs, PAs, and RDs) and a PDA version of the database.

Natural Standard (by subscription): Natural Standard was founded by clinicians and researchers to provide high quality, evidence-based information about complementary and alternative therapies. This international multidisciplinary collaboration now includes contributors from more than 100 eminent academic institutions.

For each therapy covered by Natural Standard, a research team systematically gathers scientific data and expert opinions. Validated rating scales are used to evaluate the quality of available evidence. Information is incorporated into comprehensive monographs which are designed to facilitate clinical decision making. All monographs undergo blinded editorial and peer review prior to inclusion in Natural Standard databases.

The database includes sections on Herbs & Supplements, Health & Wellness, Allergy & Immunology, Condition Center, Brand Names, Interactions.

Natural Standard also provides a Desktop Version and a PDA/Handheld Version (both abridged- download free partial trials before purchasing full year)

Cochrane Library: “The Cochrane Library contains high-quality, independent evidence to inform healthcare decision-making. It includes reliable evidence from Cochrane and other systematic reviews, clinical trials, and more. Cochrane reviews bring you the combined results of the world’s best medical research studies, and are recognised as the gold standard in evidence-based health care”.

It comprises ‘The Cochrane Collaboration’ ( an international not-for-profit organisation, providing up-to-date information about the effects of health care) and ‘Cochrane Groups’ (The Cochrane Collaboration assesses most areas of health care. To do this, it is divided into Cochrane Groups: Cochrane Review Groups, each of which concentrates on a specific healthcare area; Fields that draw together healthcare issues impacting on many review groups; a Consumer Network, that represents the interests of healthcare consumers; Methods Groups develop methodological techniques; Centres with geographic and linguistic responsibilities; and a Steering Group, which provides the policy- and decision-making body of the Collaboration, and this, in turn, is supported by the Secretariat).

It includes: Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews; Database of Abstracts of Reviews of Effects; Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials; Cochrane Methodology Register; Health Technology Assessment Database and NHS Economic Evaluation Database.
Children Research: Children specific  research covering education, mental health, behaviour and other issues
